Overview

Perfect for medium to large dogs, the Perimeter® Ultra is a great system with several unique features. The first innovation of the Perimeter® system is found on the dog’s collar. Known as Comfort Contact™ points, the two contacts that touch your dog’s neck are encased in rubber. This means that the Perimeter® collar offers a higher level of comfort for your dog than can be found with other brands. Something else that adds to the comfort of the collar is that it only weighs 1.1 ounces. This means the collar will never weigh your dog down.

The collar is completely waterproof and contains no buttons or charging ports. This means that the correction settings are adjusted on the transmitter itself. Whether this is a good or a bad thing is a matter of opinion.

Another helpful feature is located on the transmitter. It is known as Digital Frequency Encoding. What this means is that you get to select which frequency you want to work with. This is particularly important if you have a neighbor that has a dog fence of their own. If your neighbor’s fence is running on the same frequency as yours, this will cause a disruption of the signal.

In regards to the corrections the Perimeter® collar offers, it has a sufficient amount to choose from. You can choose levels 1 through five, or a progressive correction setting. With progressive correction, as the dog gets closer to the borderline, the correction levels automatically ramp up.

The one disadvantage of the Perimeter® system is that the collar’s batteries are not rechargeable. It runs solely on PTPRB-003 proprietary batteries, which are not available to buy at your local discount store. However, the good thing is that the batteries in this system will last for a good amount of time before needing to be replaced.

The nice thing is that you won’t have to guess if your batteries are running low or not, because of the system’s battery check feature. In order for a low battery to be triggered, there has to be 3 consecutive low battery readings.

Two of its other unique components include the temperature check and wire check features. The temperature check feature makes sure that the dog fence stays operational regardless of what the outside temperature is. The wire check feature will alert you with an alarm, should there be a break in the wire.

A big bonus of the Perimeter® system is that it is the only brand that is made right here in the USA with imported parts. In conclusion, as long as you don’t mind not having rechargeable batteries, the Perimeter® system won’t let you down.
