On March 12, 2013, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) alerted consumers to the potential for Salmonella bacteria in the poultry-based raw pet food Bravo!® Raw Food Diet. The warning was issued after a sample being tested at the laboratory at the MDA tested positive for the bacteria.

The specific product recalled included 2-lb tubes of Bravo!® Raw Food Diet Chicken Blend for Dogs and Cats with a batch ID code of 6/14/12 and a product code 21-10. The product was manufactured by Bravo!®, LLC, which operates out of Manchester, Connecticut. The recalled product was shipped to retailers nationwide and through online sales.

Salmonella can cause a variety of symptoms in those who eat or otherwise come into contact with it, including humans handling the product or its packaging. These symptoms include fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in humans and animals, with pets showing further symptoms such as loss of appetite and lethargic behavior. Pet owners should seek medical help if they believe they or their pets have become infected with Salmonella.

To receive a full refund, customers can return unused portions to their place of purchase.
