Physical Appearance

A strong, muscular dog, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier has a short deep head with a broad skull. Its smooth, short coat comes in red, fawn, white, black or blue and any of these colors with white. Some people may see this dog and mistake it for a Pit Bull. He is slightly longer than he is tall. “Part of their charm is that they look so tough, but they really aren’t. Their inner beauty will steal your heart,” says the author of A New Owner’s Guide to Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Personality

This very courageous and obedient dog is very people friendly. It is quite affectionate and has a great sense of humor. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are known to be wonderful with children. They are intelligent, persistent and active. They love challenge and variety. This breed is totally fearless and curious. Be aware that they will be more than willing to fight with another dog if they are challenged. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are stubborn and sometimes headstrong. They require rigorous exercise for an outlet to their energy.

Fun Facts

  • Staffordshire puppies chew a lot so be sure to give them plenty of chew toys to keep them occupied.
  • An athletic Staffordshire can scale a six-foot fence and may also choose to dig his way under it.
  • They tend to be quite destructive if they get bored.
