The reason for the recall was due to the fact that the FDA examined a routine surveillance sample of the product and found they tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
The affected productwas only distributed to retail stores within the state of Maryland. None of their other K-9 Kraving products are included in the recall.
If your dog has eaten the recalled product, watch for symptoms of diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting and tiredness. If your dog has consumed the recalled product and is experiencing any of these symptoms, take them to their veterinarian right away.
There is also a risk of humans getting sick from Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. There is a particular risk if someone handles the dog food and then fails to wash their hands and/or surfaces afterward.
Healthy people who are infected with Salmonella and Listeria should monitor themselves for nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. In rare cases, Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes can result in more serious illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Those who experience any of these symptoms should contact a physician immediately.
Should you have any of the recalled product, you should discontinue use and carefully dispose of the remainder. You may also choose to obtain a full refund or exchange by returning the product in its original packaging or bringing the proof of purchase back to the retailer.
