eXtreme Dog Fence® Standard Active Electric Dog Fence Kit

How a Dog Fence Works

So you are thinking of getting an electric dog fence? An underground dog fence is an excellent choice for containing your dog. Let’s take a moment to talk about how an invisible dog fence works and why it is such a great solution for keeping your dog at home with you, where he or she belongs.

First, let’s establish that an underground fence, versus a wireless electric dog fence is a much better choice. Although wireless is effortless to install, there are many variables that can cause a wireless fence to fail. If you want the most dependable, customizable, best invisible dog fence available, read on to learn about how our American-manufactured eXtreme Dog Fence® works.

Components of an Inground Dog Fence

There are 3 crucial components of a pet containment system. These include dog fence wire, a dog fence transmitter, and a special receiver collar that your dog wears. The transmitter, located inside of your home, is the brains of the operation. It transmits a radio signal throughout your dog fence wire. Along with our manual our extreme videos help you learn how to program your transmitter with ease.

Your dog fence wire, which is buried around your property, creates a border that you have designed yourself. Although your border is customizable, you must always establish a complete loop back to your transmitter in order for the fence to work.

Your dog wears an invisible fence collar, which triggers when he approaches a predetermined distance in front of your dog fence wire. Your dog’s receiver collar is powered by Perimeter 6-volt Extreme invisible fence batteries.

Dog Fence Correction

The concept of static correction is the same as is used in dog behavior training. Here is what it feels like to your dog. Run across the carpet in your socks and then touch a doorknob. That is a static shock, which is similar to what the dog feels when he receives a static correction. With the eXtreme Dog Fence® there are 7 different levels of correction to choose from, in addition to a beep-only mode used for training.

A Word About Dog Fence Wire

There are many different gauges of wire available for your pet fence. You will find 20 gauge wire, 18 gauge, 16 gauge wire, and 14 gauge. With so many options, how does one know which wire to choose? Here is some advice from the experts.

Though 20 and 18 gauge wire is inexpensive, it is not an ideal choice. This is because it is thin and very vulnerable to breakage or wearing down over time. A cheap dog fence comes with this type of thin dog fence wire. Logically, you may be focused on finding a fence for sale at a low price point, but keep in mind that you get what you pay for.

16 gauge wire is a step in the right direction, but still not the best selection.

The best electric dog fence comes with 14 gauge dog fence wire. If you want your dog fence wire to last a long time, 14 gauge wire is the way to go, without a doubt. Our 14 gauge wire is designed to last a lifetime. It will not degrade, or break unless a blade is taken to it. In addition to this, the performance of your electric dog fence will be enhanced by its superior signal conductivity.

In fact, our 14 gauge dog fence wire is so durable that you don’t even need to bury it if you don’t want to. You can simply use fence staples to tack it to the top of the ground.

Collar Features

Digital Frequency Encoding:

This feature is helpful if your neighbor has an electric dog fence. Neighboring dog fence systems as well as devices that generate similar signals may interfere with your electric dog fence, causing your signal to become interrupted or unreliable.

Small & Lightweight:

One of the lightest and smallest receiver collars in the industry, the eXtreme Dog Fence® Active receiver collar weighs only 1.1 ounces. It is suitable for dogs as small as 8 pounds.

Comfort Contacts:

Designed to make the collar more comfortable for your dog, our Comfort Contacts are conductive rubber tips that fit onto the contact points of the eXtreme Dog Fence® Active receiver collar. They conduct the correction, just like the metal contact points. However, they are a softer touch on your dog’s skin, which means less irritation. For this reason, these comfort contacts make this system the #1 choice for dogs that have sensitive skin.

8 Individual Correction Settings:

The eXtreme Dog Fence® Active collar has many different settings for you to choose from. Level 0 is a tone-only mode, which is used for training your dog. Levels 1 through 5 are low to high levels of steady, static correction. Lastly, levels 6 and 7 are a progressive correction, where the level of correction automatically increases as the dog moves toward the boundary line. You are able to set each individual collar to the setting that is right for each particular dog. This is done on the transmitter itself, as opposed to on the collar. These unique correction level settings and lightweight collar make this a great choice for multi-dog households, where each of the dogs are 8 pounds and up.

Battery Check:

Its patented Battery Check feature makes sure you only change the battery when it is truly drained. This feature activated every 2 hours to make sure you know right away when your battery is low. Because battery output fluctuates, depending on the environment and other factors, our eXtreme Dog Fence® collar requires 3 consecutive low battery triggers before the low battery light will illuminate.

Exceptional Waterproofing:

As there are no buttons or dials on the collar, this means the collar is 100% waterproof. In fact, the receiver collar can still function when it is fully submersed. This means that the eXtreme Dog Fence® collar is perfect for rainy climates and houses with swimming pools, ponds or lakes.

Disposable Proprietary Battery:

Our collar runs on a disposable, proprietary battery. We realize most people prefer a rechargeable battery, or a generic battery that is easy to buy in your local store. With that being said, the Perimeter 6 volt battery that goes in this collar does have a pretty impressive life span, between 2-4 months. As mentioned, your collar will let you know when your battery is truly depleted. Some people would prefer changing a battery every few months as opposed to remembering to charge it every day.

Transmitter Features

Multiple Frequencies:

The multiple frequency selection is one of the standout features of the eXtreme Dog Fence® transmitter. This feature ensures that your dog fence will work without interruption, even if your neighbor has an electric dog fence as well.

Adjustable Boundary Zone:

You are able to adjust the boundary zone width on the transmitter. This means that you are able to control how close your dog gets to the wire before receiving a correction. The boundary zone width adjustment of the eXtreme Dog Fence® is completely digital, so you are able to make precise adjustments.

Temp Check & Wire Check:

The Temp Check feature on the eXtreme Dog Fence® means that the system automatically senses and adjusts for temperature and electrical changes that could affect the performance of your dog fence boundary wire. In extreme climates, this becomes really important. Its Wire Check feature means that the transmitter will audibly alert you if there is a break or inconsistency in your dog fence wire.

25 Acre Capacity:

Our eXtreme Dog Fence® is capable of containing a property of 25 acres or less. This is enough for most situations, either in the country or the city.

Lacks Battery Backup:

It should be noted that should the power go out, your dogs will be unprotected. This is because the system does not have a battery backup, in case of a power failure. Although the transmitter is very reliable, should the power go out, your fence will not be operational.
