On May 15, 2015, OC Raw Dog Food issued a recall for 2,055 pounds of the company’s Turkey and Produce Raw Frozen Canine product. The recall was instituted after the Nebraska Department of Food and Agriculture detected the presence of Salmonella in the product while performing routine sampling.
Sold at pet specialty retailers in Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, and Pennsylvania, the recalled product includes:
- 5-lb Bulk Bags and 6.5-lb Doggie Dozen Patties of its Turkey & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulations. Both items have a lot number of 1511 and a “best by” date of 10/8/15.
The company worked in conjunction with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to determine the cause of the Salmonella contamination.
Salmonella can cause a variety of symptoms in humans and animals, including fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In addition, pets can exhibit lethargic behavior and loss of appetite. Pet owners should seek immediate medical attention if they think they or their pets have been exposed to Salmonella.
