Nutro Product, Inc. made an announcement on September 30th, 2009 that they have recalled their NUTRO® dry dog and cat food products.

The reason for the recall was due to melted plastic found within the production line of many of the NUTRO® dry food products. In the discovery of this contamination, Nutro Product, Inc. retrieved the affected food products for their distributors, leaving 3 SKU’s that may have reached the retail shelves. The deliveries of the specific SKU’s made its way to a few PetSmart and Petco retail stores.

The melted plastic was discovered to be similar to a workers hard-hat that unknowingly made its way into the manufacturing process of the NUTRO® dry foods production line. When discovered, manufacturing came to a halt and a thorough search of all equipment was made within the building.

Upon the extensive review of the manufacturing production area, Nutro Product, Inc. announced that it is unlikely that the melted plastic made its way into any finished products. Nevertheless, the discovery of this incident concluded that Nutro Product, Inc. voluntarily recalled and accepted any potentially contaminated food products.

Possible contaminated foods that may have made it to stores are located in California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Hawaii.

If you believe that you purchased a NUTRO® product that may be contaminated Nutro Product, Inc. has provided information to return the products for a full refund or exchange.
