Bailey’s Choice Dog Treats LLC expanded its earlier recall of some of its chicken dog treats on November 6, 2013. The recall was issued due to the potential presence of Salmonella bacteria in the product.

Based in Waleska, Georgia, the company issued the recall after routine testing by the Georgia Department of Agriculture detected the presence of Salmonella bacteria in some of the company’s 5-oz packages of chicken treats.

The affected product includes 5-oz packages of 100% Chicken Treats with lot dates June 2, 2013, June 3, 2013, June 15, 2013, July 8, 2013, and July 11, 2013. Also included in the recall were 5-oz packages of 100% Chicken Breast Treats with a lot date of June 4, 2013, and 5-oz packages of 100% Teriyaki Chicken Treats with lot number 132881.

Salmonella infection can cause such symptoms as lethargy and loss of appetite in pets, as well as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in both humans and pets. Immediate medical help should be sought if pet owners or their animals are thought to have been exposed to Salmonella.
